The nerfs are that he no longer discounts by 1 MP spells over 4 MP, he no longer supports summoning and he no longer gifts his books. He's been nerfed in quite a few ways but buffed in several others. Fulminant prism does decent damage but it's pretty loud and take some setup time to really do damage. Force lance has helped me a few times to keep an orc knight away from my squishy caster and dazzling spray blinds things which effectively makes you invisible to that creature. This means that magic dart stays really useful all the way through Lair and even into vaults. Battlesphere is the best of the lot with a little "pet" that follows you around and "pew-pews" every time you pew-pew. Take out the shamans first as they can haste the other trolls. They are no longer push overs, but they're not crazy hard. The other Abyss mosnters I don't have any real experience with.ĭeep Troll shamans and earth elementalists have upped the threat level of the late deep troll packs. Now it takes a few turns, so kill them quickly and you're OK. Ancient zymes were really annoying and dangerous since they would sicken you immediately even from outside LOS which meant burning curing or waiting it out which isn't as easy in the Abyss. Then then attack with a scream which is more powerful the more it has split. The starcursed mass is dangerous if you don't run quickly or take it out since it works like a reverse green slime and one monster splits into several. The rune spawns on level 3+ and as you go deeper in the Abyss, monster generation and danger increases. The new Abyss and its monsters I don't have as much experience with since I haven't yet gone for the Abyssal rune. I would still recommend doing vaults 1-4 before 20 + but it's not the cakewalk that it once was. Not so dangerous are the vault wardens and protectors. Dangerous are the convoker and vault sentinel since you will have the whole level converging on you and if you're far from stairs, it can get very hairy quickly. The new monsters go from mildly threatening to dangerous. Vaults is now more dangerous in my opinion. I'll indicate when I haven't explicitly experienced the change and I'm just relaying other players' feedback. 12 started so I think I have a pretty good handle on most of the changes. And points-wise we were within striking distance of the top 20. In the last tournament we placed pretty respectably at 26th overall which was a nice little jump from 32d the tournament before that. With the tiles support, it really is one of the most approachable rogue-likes I have ever played due to mouse support, auto-explore and the tremendous amount of in-built documentation just a click or key-press away.Īs is customary for their new releases, there is a tournament scheduled for May 11 - May 26. So for example, there is a nature god who appreciates when you let bodies decompose, a healing god who likes when you destroy weapons and a trickster god who likes to mess around with you.Ĭrawl's philosophy is that it shouldn't require spoilers in order to be successful - that isn't to say that experience and spoilers won't make you a better player, but unlike a game of say Nethack where a newbie player has absolutely no chance of success, Crawl's design philosophy can been seen more at and it can be downloaded here.
